Natural Ways to Relieve Sore Feet

A human foot is a wonderful yet complicated part of the body. When I was a kid I went barefoot a lot and loved every minute of it, but the older I get the more I realize I like to have something separating my bare foot from a hard surface. Recently I was in a situation where I had to stand for most of the day in uncomfortable shoes and my feet are desperate for a little R&R.

After doing a little research I realized there are some quick easy ways to relieve foot pain, and the best thing is you can do them right in the comfort of your home.

1. Foot Massage:
Massaging the feet can bring comfort, relaxation and help with circulation issues. A quick, simple way to give yourself a nice foot massage is to place two tennis balls in an old sock, tie the end and roll on the floor with your foot. This technique is most beneficial to the balls of the feet and also the arch.

2. Elevate Feet:
Keeping your feet elevated after a long day can help to ward off swelling. Elevating your feet above your head is one of the most helpful things you can do. Using a wall, lie on your back and place your feet on the wall in front of you. To make it more comfortable, turn down the lights and play soft music. This is a very restorative movement and can benefit much more than your feet!

3. Foot Soak:
For a refreshing and stimulating treat for the feet, fill one basin with cold water and another with water as hot as you can comfortably stand. Sit in a comfortable chair, and place your feet in the cold water. After 5 minutes, switch to the hot water. Repeat. This "hydromassage” alternately dilates and constricts blood vessels in your feet, boosting circulation.
To pamper your feet with essential oils, fill a bowl with hot water and add 2 drops peppermint oil, along with four drops each of eucalyptus and rosemary oil. Soak for 10 minutes.
If you don’t have any essential oils at home, brew up a very strong cup of peppermint tea and add it to the water.
Soak your feet in a warm-water footbath spiked with half an ounce arnica tincture. The improved blood flow almost instantly results in less pain.
